Summary

Amends the

Migration Act 1958
in relation to: detention of unlawful non-citizens, particularly minors; granting of visas to persons in detention, including a removal pending bridging visa; and the role of the Commonwealth Ombudsman in reviewing the cases of persons who have been in immigration detention for more than 2 years.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the elders past, present and emerging.
